Report Purpose

This report provides district and student-level Career and Technical Education (CTE) participation data used to evaluate student engagement in CTE coursework and career pathway programs.

The report includes both:

  • A Summary Table containing aggregate CTE participation metrics by student group

  • A Student-Level Table containing detailed student demographics, course participation, and CTE pathway classifications

The report supports:

  • Monitoring CTE participation trends

  • Evaluating equity in CTE access and participation

  • Identifying student engagement across career pathways

  • Supporting college and career readiness initiatives

  • Reviewing participation across CTE program clusters


Report Output Format

1. Summary Table

Grain: One row per student group/category

Includes:

  • Total student counts

  • CTE student counts

  • CTE participation proportions

  • Credits earned proportions

  • Participation counts across CTE career clusters

2. Student-Level Table

Grain: One row per student-course record

Includes:

  • Student demographic information

  • Enrollment and program participation indicators

  • Course participation details

  • CTE cluster classifications derived from course mappings


Parameters

Required Parameters

School Year

Defines the academic year used to evaluate CTE participation.

Schools

Select one or more schools to include in the report.

Optional Parameters

Output is further filtered by your student filter settings.


Data Included

Student Population

The report includes students who:

  • Are enrolled during the selected school year

  • Attend one of the selected schools

  • Have qualifying course records during the reporting year

  • Have CTE-related course participation data available


Summary Table Metrics

Student Counts

Includes:

  • Total students

  • Unique CTE students

Participation Proportions

Calculated as:

  • CTE student participation percentage

  • CTE credits earned proportion

CTE Career Cluster Participation

The summary output includes participation indicators for the following CTE clusters:

  • Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources

  • Architecture and Construction

  • Arts, A/V Technology & Communication

  • Business Management & Administration

  • Education & Training

  • Family and Consumer Sciences

  • Finance

  • Government & Public Administration

  • Health Science

  • Hospitality and Tourism

  • Human Services

  • Information Technology

  • Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security

  • Manufacturing

  • Marketing

  • Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

Student-Level Data Domains

1. Student Demographics

Includes:

  • State Student ID

  • District Student ID

  • Student names

  • Birth date

  • Gender

  • Race and ethnicity indicators

  • Language information

  • Address information

  • High school entry year

2. Program Participation Indicators

Includes participation flags for:

  • Economically Disadvantaged

  • Title I

  • Special Education

  • Section 504

  • Migrant Education

  • Indian Education

  • English Learner

  • Distance Learning

  • Homeschool

  • Alternative Education

  • TAG

Indicator values are normalized to:

  • Y = Yes

  • N = No

3. Course Participation Data

Includes:

  • Course name

  • Subject area

  • Staff name

  • School name

  • Mark type and period

  • Course grade

4. CTE Cluster Indicators

Each student-course record includes Y/N indicators identifying alignment to one or more CTE career clusters based on NCES SCED course mappings.


Data Transformations & Business Rules

Student IDs

State student IDs are zero-padded to 10 digits.

CTE Classification Logic

CTE Clusters (Categories) are derived from NCES SCED course code attribute mappings.

Each cluster indicator is reported as:

  • Y = Course aligns to the cluster

  • N = Course does not align to the cluster

Course Inclusion Rules

Only latest qualifying marks for the reporting year are included.

Transcript-only marks use transcript school, course, and grade values when applicable.


How to Use This Report

1. Set Parameters

Select:

  • School Year

  • Schools

2. Run Report

Generate the report output.

3. Review Summary Table

Use summary metrics to evaluate:

  • Overall CTE participation

  • Participation across career clusters

  • Equity in CTE access

  • Credits earned trends

4. Review Student-Level Table

Validate:

  • Student demographic data

  • CTE pathway participation

  • Program indicators

  • Course outcomes

  • Career cluster classifications


Notes

  • The report contains both summary and student-level outputs

  • Summary results are grouped by student demographic categories

  • Student-level results may contain multiple rows per student due to multiple course records

  • CTE classifications are derived from NCES SCED course mappings

  • Only latest marks for the reporting year are included

  • Results reflect current permissions and available data at runtime
